Embracing Diversity: Trustees’ Week 2023
Published: 08 November 2023 | Updated: 15 November 2023 |
This Trustees’ Week (6th-10th November 2023), we stand together with charitable organisations across the UK, celebrating the theme: 'Many voices. Working together. With purpose.' It resonates deeply with our commitment to making a difference for unpaid family caregivers in low- and middle-income countries.
Celebrating Our Trustees
As we celebrate, let's take a moment to reflect on the qualities we value in our trustees and appreciate the strength and distinct perspectives and skills of our current Board of Trustees. Each trustee's unique talents, viewpoints, and experiences are highly valued. When these voices converge, they come together like pieces of a puzzle, guiding our collective decision-making with purpose.
“Being Chair of Trustees is a big responsibility – but so rewarding! Bringing together the huge and diverse talents of our brilliant trustees and the staff team unlocks so much expertise, rich thinking and different perspectives to ensure we deliver lasting change is inspiring and invigorating. And, importantly, so much fun!”
Jonathan Freeman, MBE, Chair of Trustees
Passion for Our Mission
What we look for in our trustees is a passion for our mission, dedication, and a willingness to collaborate. We seek individuals who bring a wide array of skills, experiences, and perspectives to the table. Their diverse backgrounds and unique viewpoints enrich our decision-making processes, shaping our charity's strategic direction with wisdom and innovation, and helping us navigate the complex challenges our charity faces.
“I’m proud to be a trustee of Carers Worldwide. The tenacity, creativity and determination with which the charity approaches the challenge to make changes in the lives of carers in South Asia is inspiring. Being a trustee gives me the opportunity to bring my business background to the charity sector which is incredibly rewarding and fulfilling for me and gives me a healthy focus for my overactive brain!”
Nicole Hunter, Carers Worldwide Trustee
A Culture of Excellence
Our Board of Trustees fosters a culture of excellence, enabling creative ideas to flow freely for the public benefit with key responsibilities including governance, fiduciary duty, compliance, mission safeguarding, risk management, driving meaningful impact, and ensuring the charity operates within its legal and regulatory framework.
“It is an honour to be a trustee of this small but mighty charity. The work that they do and the outcomes they achieve is truly inspiring.”
Ian Yates, Carers Worldwide Trustee
The Importance of Diversity
The importance of diversity on our board cannot be overstated. It reflects not only the primary stakeholders we serve but also enhances the quality of our decisions. By harnessing the power of various perspectives, we strengthen our charity, foster innovation, and ensure that our actions align with the needs of those we aim to help.
“Trustees’ Week is a perfect time to recognise and celebrate the invaluable contributions of our trustees and the diverse voices that make our charity stronger, allowing us to create a brighter, more inclusive future for all.”
Anil Patil, Carers Worldwide Founder & Executive Director
