Carers Worldwide and BasicNeeds – Nepal Earthquake Appeal
Medicines and basic supplies urgently needed for families affected by the Nepal earthquake
Carers Worldwide and BasicNeeds are urgently seeking funding to ensure that our partner LEADS Nepal can obtain much needed medicines and basic supplies following the earthquake that that hit the region on 25th April.
Our partner-led programme with mentally ill people and carers is focused on the districts of Myagdi and Baglung in Nepal, both of which are very close to the epicentre of the devastating earthquake that hit the region. Our partner staff in the villages there report more than 500 people injured and 3,000 houses damaged with people living and sleeping outside of their homes in cold temperatures. “People are scared to go inside their houses, we have experienced over 100 aftershocks over the last two days. We have still not been able to contact families in the most remote villages,” says Padam Raj Shrestha of LEADS Nepal.
Food supplies and medicines, including those for long-term mental health conditions are very rapidly running down with the real possibility of patients becoming very ill with less chance of being able to regain their current stability levels.
We are urgently seeking funds to ensure that our partner, LEADS Nepal, can obtain immediate supplies of food, water, pharmaceutical drugs and blankets to support both mentally ill people, their carers and other family members.
