This project is working with 3,300 people with mental illness and epilepsy and their carers across Koraput district in the state of Odisha. Through the project we are strengthening the district mental health programme, running carers groups and empowering carers to advocate for their needs and the needs of their relatives living with mental health conditions.
The project is also focussing on building up the skills of partner staff, raising awareness of the issues that unpaid carers face, identifying people with mental illness and epilepsy and organising mental health camps to provide treatment and support for newly identified cases.
Through this project we are:
- improving access to mental health services and treatment
- supporting the mental health of carers
- raising awareness of issues around mental health and caring
- establishing sustainable links between carers and local health authorities
- strengthening the capacity of staff and carers
- improving livelihoods options and income levels for people with mental illness and epilepsy and their carers
