Relief and rehabilitation for mentally ill people and their carers affected by the earthquakes in Nepal

In the days following the massive earthquakes and the aftermath that hit Nepal, Carers Worldwide’s partner LEADS, has been very closely involved in the relief efforts, making sure people – especially those most vulnerable living with mental illness and epilepsy along with their carers – were provided for in terms of food, shelter, water and blankets.

We would like to thank all our donors and supporters who have helped us raise £31,330 so far through our JustGiving page which is jointly run with BasicNeeds, and via other fundraising channels.

With the help of these funds, Padam Shrestha, Executive Director of LEADS, has employed a counsellor who has travelled into the field to offer support to the very vulnerable communities. LEADS has also purchased basic food, medicines, tents and blankets for families in need; expanded their livelihoods programme to reach an additional 800 directly affected people; and continued to lobby the government to ensure that people living with mental illness and epilepsy and their carers are included in government relief efforts and planning.
