Our Welwyn Garden City community raises £1,434 for unpaid family carers

Two recent local events brought people together in support of unpaid family carers and there is another chance to get involved this November.
We are delighted to share that our wonderful local Welwyn Garden City community has raised £1,434 for Carers Worldwide this month. The money was raised through two recent events, each bringing local people together to support our work helping unpaid family carers in low- and middle-income countries access the support, recognition and opportunities they deserve.
A community effort worth celebrating
Our Curry for Carers evening at Neem Tree on 14 October raised an impressive £759. Guests enjoyed delicious food and good company while supporting unpaid family carers.
We also received a generous £675 from the collection at the Friends Music concert, held at the Quaker Meeting House on 11 October. Together, these events show what can happen when a community comes together around a shared cause.

Why this support matters
Carers Worldwide was founded in 2012 by Welwyn Garden City residents Anil and Ruth Patil. Through their work in rural India, they saw first-hand the isolation, stigma and hardship experienced by unpaid carers of people with disabilities and mental illness. Their mission later became even more personal when they became carers for their daughter, who has Down syndrome. Read more about their story and how it inspired the work of Carers Worldwide.
Today, the Carers Worldwide Model is transforming lives across India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Kenya. By working with trusted local partners, we help build carer-friendly communities, strengthen carers’ income opportunities, improve access to healthcare and respite, and drive lasting policy change.
“We are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped raise this wonderful total. Every donation will help fund vital support for unpaid carers and their families. A huge thank you to everyone who joined our Curry for Carers evening, to Neem Tree for hosting us, and to Friends Music and its concert audience for their generosity.”
- Ruth Patil, Development Director at Carers Worldwide

There is another opportunity to support our work at Circle of Care – A Wellness Fundraiser, taking place on Sunday 1 November, from 10am to 12pm, at The Vineyard in Welwyn Garden City.
We are holding this event to mark the United Nations International Day of Care and Support, and we are putting well-being and self-care at its heart.
