Every Act of Care Matters This International Day of Care & Support

The United Nations International Day of Care & Support is less than a week away and we’re looking forward to another brilliant day, with unpaid carers across South Asia coming together to raise their voices and make themselves heard. Discover below some of what will be happening on the day.
India
We are delighted that the south Indian state of Karnataka has issued an order for the International Day of Care & Support to be formally recognised and celebrated across all 31 of its districts. Our local charity partners in the state are organising events alongside government officials, and having this state backing is a really significant step.
The Government of Karnataka is also organising a large event in the state capital Bengaluru, which will see hundreds of carers come together to be recognised and appreciated.
Bangladesh
In our Savar project area in Bangladesh, local carers who are members of our Carers Association are taking responsibility for the celebrations this year and it's great to see them taking the lead and really making this event their own.
Meanwhile, our partner organisation Centre for Disability in Development (CDD) will be running the first event of its kind in our new project area of Dinajpur in northern Bangladesh. Unpaid carers from that area have told us why they are looking forward to celebrating this day for the first time. Watch the video below to hear their views...
Nepal
Carers in Nepal will be marking the day alongside our partner organisations, the Carers Association and the Carers Alliance Nepal, through a webinar on the situation of unpaid family carers in Nepal and a small gathering at the office of one our partners, SGCP. They are unable to hold a large public gathering or street rally this year due to the recent youth-led protests that toppled the national government.
Every Act of Care Matters
These are just some examples of the events that will be taking place next Wednesday on the UN International Day of Care & Support. All the effort that goes into organising these events truly shows the determination of unpaid carers and our local partners to make a stand and demand that carers are seen and supported.
At Carers Worldwide, we believe that Every Act of Care Matters and on the International Day of Care & Support we call for communities and governments everywhere to recognise and support unpaid family carers, on this day and every day.
If you want to lend your support, then please do follow along on the day on our social media channels and share our posts with your friends and families. Every bit of awareness helps! And if you’re able, please do give a donation - whatever the size, it will help us continue our work supporting unpaid carers in low- and middle-income countries.
