Pedalling for a Purpose: Our Chair of Trustees Takes on Fundraising Challenge
Published: 06 June 2024 | Updated: 06 June 2024 |
Our Chair of Trustees, Jonathan Freeman MBE, is taking on his biggest cycling challenge to date this month, in an effort to raise money to support Carers Worldwide and the CareTech Foundation.
He will be cycling 140 miles from Gretna Green to Manchester on 23 June, tackling 6,000 feet of elevation.
He is doing this to raise funds for two charities that mean a lot to him, but also to raise awareness of Championing Social Care’s second annual Great British Care Cycle Relay, which coincides with Care Home Open Week from June 24th to 30th.
The Great British Care Cycle Relay is a monumental cycling event that aims to raise awareness of social care in the United Kingdom. This relay will cover 300 miles from Manchester to London, bringing together colleagues, supporters, and families to promote the care services at the heart of every community. Participants will pedal through picturesque landscapes and visit care communities along a route through Cheshire, north Wales, Shropshire, Birmingham, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and finally into London.
As well as raising money for Carers Worldwide, Jonathan will also be raising money for the CareTech Foundation, which supports care professionals through their Hardship Fund. The social care sector employs 1.6 million people, more than the NHS, yet many struggle financially due to chronic underfunding. The Foundation's grants significantly help these individuals.
Jonathan has witnessed firsthand, the transformative impact of both the CareTech Foundation and Carers Worldwide on individuals and their communities, making them both particularly meaningful to him.
If you would like to help Jonathan on his way by supporting his fundraising efforts and helping to make a difference in the lives of care professionals and unpaid carers, you can visit his donation page here.
Thank you Jonathan, and good luck!
