Carers Worldwide Founder & Executive Director, Anil Patil, reflects on the past year and what lies ahead for Carers Worldwide in 2025.

As we close the chapter on 2024, it is natural to feel both reflective and a little anxious about the road ahead. But as I look into 2025, I feel an overwhelming sense of optimism - not just for what lies ahead for our charity, but for the growing global movement to support unpaid family carers.

A Year of Challenges and Progress

This past year has been filled with milestones and breakthroughs. From advocating for carers’ rights  on national and international platforms, to implementing impactful programmes with our partners,  every step we have taken has brought us closer to realising our vision: a world where every unpaid carer is valued and their needs are met.

We have worked tirelessly to shine a light on the silent contributions of carers in low- and middle-income countries and to ensure they have access to peer support groups to reduce loneliness and isolation, health services for better health outcomes, respite care for brief breaks for primary carers, financial security to meet the needs of the families, and advocacy to raise awareness about the importance of family carers and fight for their rights. It has been humbling to witness the resilience and strength of unpaid carers and their families, which inspire us every single day.

Why I’m Optimistic About 2025

As we step into 2025, there are several reasons to feel hopeful:

1. Strengthened Partnerships

Over the past year, we have deepened relationships with partners across India, Nepal, Bangladesh, and beyond. In 2025, these collaborations will empower us to scale our programmes and touch even more lives. The growing recognition from funders like the CareTech Charitable Foundation, the Vitol Foundation and the Goyal Foundation, the support of local partners, and the strengthening of our National Carers Alliances in each of these countries, provides a strong foundation to achieve even greater impact.

2. A Growing Global Movement

The world is beginning to recognise the critical role unpaid carers play in society. Events like the International Day for Care and Support, global advocacy efforts, and increased attention to carers’ mental health have brought carers’ needs to the forefront. In 2025, I see this momentum continuing to grow.

3. A Passionate Team and New Energy

I am deeply grateful for the incredible Trustees and the committed team members at Carers Worldwide in the UK and India, who bring dedication and innovation to our work. With new members joining our organisation, we are equipped to take on the challenges of the year ahead with fresh ideas and renewed energy.

4. Opportunities for Innovation

The world is changing rapidly, and so is the landscape of unpaid caregiving. In 2025, we will be expanding into Pakistan, subject to resources being mobilised, and exploring opportunities in East Africa. By implementing our time-tested Carers Worldwide Model through a partnership approach, we aim to broaden our reach. Whether through training, policy advocacy, or innovative community programmes, we will continue to find ways to support unpaid family carers. Every challenge presents an opportunity, and we are ready to embrace them.

5. Resilience and Hope

Above all, I am inspired by the carers themselves. Their resilience, compassion, and strength in the face of adversity remind us why our work is so vital. Their stories fuel our efforts and give us hope that meaningful change is not just possible - it is inevitable.

A Call to Action

While uncertainty may always loom, Carers Worldwide is well-equipped to face challenges and seize opportunities in 2025, making it a year full of promise and potential.

As we leap into 2025, I invite each of you—our supporters, partners, and friends—to join us in this journey. Together, we can build a world where carers are not just seen but supported and celebrated.

Thank you for walking alongside us in this mission. The future is bright, and with your continued support, I am confident that 2025 will be a year of transformation for unpaid carers everywhere.

The resilience of carers is a daily inspiration. Their steadfast strength shows us that meaningful change is not just possible—it’s within our grasp. Together, we can turn the invisible into the visible."
